BCMANR Mandate
To establish natural resource policy to support the cultural and sustenance needs of the Métis people in British Columbia through conservation and management of our environment using both traditional and educational knowledge.
BCMANR Vision Statement
To help revitalize culture and pride through the use of our natural resources.
British Columbia Metis Assembly of Natural Resources (BCMANR) Policy.
This policy was developed over the past three years by the by the Metis Nation BC Minister of Natural Resources, BCMANR Regional Captains and Community Officers and MNBC staff.
The policy defines the BCMANR process as the Natural Resource Management Departments of the Ministry of Natural Resources of MNBC. It establishes BCMANR as a non-political body that is mandated to manage all aspects of natural resources (except political issues) of interest to Metis Nation BC. All natural resource issues of a political nature remain the responsibility of the Minister of Natural Resources of the Metis Nation of BC.

Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of the BCMANR is consistent with that of the traditional “Buffalo Assembly” used by the Métis in the 1700-1800's while hunting bison throughout the homeland. The BCMANR is a balanced mixture of both traditional and educational knowledge. It represents the Métis in B.C. from the grassroots local to the Métis Nation British Columbia.
Captains of BCMANR
Captains of BCMANR manage issues and activities related to the following resource portfolios through BCMANR Sub-Committes. Sub-Committes are chaired by a BCMANR Captain, however they may include professionals from outside of the Captains group including Officers and others.
- Forestry
- Fisheries/Water
- Lands/Air
- Enforcement
- Wildlife
- Youth/Education
- Finance/Fund-Raising
This combination of natural resource professionals and elected traditional knowledge holders (Captains) allows the BCMANR to integrate easily with any government agency or corporate organization. |
